The George Fern Company is celebrating
a milestone few companies ever
reach – its 100-year anniversary. And,
along with it, the company is celebrating
100 years of can-do service.
Dave Thompson, general manager
of the Cincinnati, OH office, has been
with the company since October, 1967
– nearly 42 years. When Dave joined
the George Fern Company staff, he
was one of three employees of the
then newly acquired company, which
had been sold by a descendent of
founder George Edward Fern to Otto
Budig Sr. five years earlier. Even then,
the company was known for its quality
service and can-do attitude.
“The company’s reputation started
with George Budig (Otto’s son). His
motto was, if the client asked for
something, you said ‘sure’ and found
a way to do it,” said Dave. “It started
from the top down. When you empower
the employees, they can make
it happen.”
At the time Dave joined the staff,
George Fern Company’s sole office
was in Cincinnati. Now the company
operates offices in 15 cities nationwide
with seven affiliate offices.
“It is a great company, but it is the
people that make George Fern Company
an ideal place to work. We are like
a big family,” said Nancy Guy, a CSR in
the Cincinnati office. Nancy has been
with the company for 37 years.
Like Dave, Nancy says the can-do
attitude has been a signature of the
company from the beginning.
“We have always been a company
whose employees go that extra mile to
help a client in any way needed,” she
said.
For 100 years, an operating philosophy
focused on customer satisfaction has
cultivated key relationships within the
exposition industry, and these relationships
have stood the test of time. Today,
the George Fern Company is a leading
national service contractor serving more
than 750 expositions and hundreds of
other events held annually throughout
the United States and Canada.
